Slewing bearings

The CO2-free generation of electricity from wind energy is gaining in importance throughout the world. Germany is not only a technology leader in this area, it also uses wind as its number one alternative energy source. A forecast by the Chinese government predicts that 190 billion kWh per year of wind power can be realized in China by 2015.

ThyssenKrupp Rothe Erde, a company of ThyssenKrupp AG, is world market leader for slewing bearings and was involved in the design of the very first wind power research facilities. Today the company operates the world’s biggest research and development center for slewing bearings in Lippstadt, using state of the art technology to test and optimize forward-looking bearing designs under the toughest conditions. As important structural and connecting elements in wind turbines, slewing bearings and rings make a major contribution to conserving resources through the use of renewable energies. ThyssenKrupp Rothe Erde offers slewing bearings in diameters up to 8,000 mm to meet all the various requirements in wind turbines. Decades of experience and expertise in the dimensioning of ball and roller bearings ensure the ideal design to meet the loads involved and the conditions of use.

Wind turbines also need to be cost-efficient. ThyssenKrupp focuses its materials, components and services on achieving high performance, long-term reliability and low maintenance and repair costs.

Operators of onshore and offshore wind turbines benefit from ThyssenKrupp’s concentrated materials expertise. The materials are especially suitable for the harsh conditions of the high seas or for use at low temperatures. The rotors of offshore installations can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.

In China ThyssenKrupp Rothe Erde is represented with Xuzhou Rothe Erde Slewing Bearing Co., Ltd. (XREB). XREB plays an important role in the field of renewable energy by providing yaw bearings and blade bearing products for large wind energy turbines. XREB has produced more than 60,000 high-quality bearings since 2004, which operate smoothly in more than 15,000 wind energy turbines and generate every year about 50 billion kWh - equivalent to reducing more than 40 million tons CO2 per year. The stable product quality and perfect technical service win the trust from customers and share of about 30% of China's wind power bearing market.
